Philosophy of knowledge

If I introduce a new word for something, a new adjective, describing some characteristic of something, we are suddenly being able to distinguish things apart we wouldn’t else have even noticed.
The fundamental questoin now then is: Do we need words? Why?
It seems as if we need a vocabulary to be able to even think about something, but then, a vocabulary, and even the language in general is very limiting, so why do we use it, and not something else I don’t have a clue of?
